Level of Play:

Cal North State Cup is the state-level championship for top level Cal North competitive teams and is the qualifier for the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. We recommend only top tier competitive teams (Premier and Gold level) apply for State Cup. Cal North State Cup the only event in the Cal North Cup Series that is available to teams that participate in California Regional League, US Youth Soccer National League, and/or in any Premier division in league play.   

Cal North Presidents Cup is the state-level championship for mid-to-upper level Cal North competitive teams and is the qualifier for the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup. Teams that compete in CRL or at the Premier level may not be eligible to participate in Presidents Cup.

Cal North Association Cup is generally recommended for competitive teams that are at the second or third tier within their club or league. Recreational teams or Competitive teams that compete in CCSL (or other Cal North playing league) and tournaments at the Silver Elite or lower level are encouraged to apply. Teams that compete in Gold level playing leagues or tournaments are not eligible to participate in Association Cup.

Open To:
All eligible Cal North registered teams

Age Groups:

  • Association Cup: U13, U14, U15, U16 and U19*
  • Presidents Cup: U13, U14, U15, U16 and U17**
  • State Cup: U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18 and U19***

*For the 2016/2017 season the U19 age group has been defined as players born 8/1/1997 through 12/31/1998.  Players in that age range will be eligible to participate on teams in U19 Cal North Association Cup.

**For the 2016/2017 season US Youth Soccer and Region IV will adjust their oldest Presidents Cup age group to U17/U18.  Accordingly, U17 Cal North Presidents Cup team rosters may include U18 players who were born 8/1/99 through 12/31/99.  Additionally, for the 2016/2017 season only, any U18 team will be allowed to release rostered players born January 1, 1999 – July 31, 1999 in order to reclassify the team to U17 specifically and solely for the purpose of participation in Presidents Cup provided they meet all other US Youth Soccer, Cal North and Presidents Cup eligibility requirements.

***For the 2016/2017 season US Youth Soccer has adjusted their oldest National Championship Series age group to U19/20. Accordingly, U19 State Cup team rosters may include players born on or after 8/1/1997.  Players in that age range will be eligible to participate on teams in U19 Cal North State Cup.

Additional Info:

Cal North Presidents Cup is the qualifier for US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup. Cal North Presidents Cup champions will advance to compete against teams from the 14 State Associations that comprise the Far West Region at the US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 13-18, 2017.

Cal North State Cup is the qualifier for US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. Cal North State Cup Champions and CRL champions that participate in Cal North State Cup will advance to compete for a regional championship at the US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships (Far West Regionals) in Seattle, Washington June 19-25, 2017.
