Soccer is a sport that is growing in the United States and U.S. Soccer is working hard day in and day out to develop youth players so the United States can win the World Cup within the near future.
While U.S. Soccer is making great strides in making soccer a popular sport in America, they are working at the same time trying to get the word out on futsal. Participation may not be growing as fast as soccer grew but it is safe to say futsal is on the rise and here to stay.
Futsal is played indoors meaning it is a great substitute for soccer while kids are waiting for the winter off-season to be over.
The game of futsal is used as a tool for players to develop their foot skills since there is limited space on the court. Futsal also encourages players to be creative and make quick decisions on the ball in order to overcome one-v-one scenarios. At the end of the day, the skills learned and used in futsal can easily be transferred to a full game of outdoor soccer.
Some of the world’s greatest soccer players played futsal in order to develop their foot skills and be comfortable on the ball when under pressure.
A great example of this is Ronaldo de Assis Moreira better known as “Ronaldinho”. At the age of 13, Ronaldinho became a futsal sensation after scoring twenty-three goals in a single game.
