      In 1957, Mr. Abronzino founded the Peninsula Soccer League, which is a league that produced several MLS soccer players. Mr. Abronzino moved from Italy, where he played for the Lauro di Sessa team, in 1937 to Hartford, Conn. In 1952, he relocated to the Bay Area, and five years later he started the soccer league.

      In addition to organizing leagues, Mr. Abronzino played, managed and officiated soccer, and was entered into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1971 for his help building the sport in the United States.

      In addition to serving as secretary/treasurer in the Peninsula Soccer League at the time of his death, Mr. Abronzino was an officer in the California Soccer Association, helped organize California Youth Soccer - North, served on the U.S. Soccer National Amateur Cups organizing committee, and helped found the Sons of Italy team in the Bay Area. In 1964, he was elected to the California Soccer Association Hall of Fame, and in 1979, to the California Youth Soccer Association Hall of Fame.
