SCROLL DOWN FOR U13-U19 CAL NORTH STATE CUP RECAP
DANVILLE, Calif. (December 16-17, 2023) - Cal North held the 2023-2024 Cal North State Cup for U9-U12 age groups on December 16th & 17th at the beautiful Mustang Soccer Complex in Danville, California.
Cal North State Cup is the designated state-level qualifier for the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships and the first step to the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. Every Cal North District was well represented, with the exception of District 1. In total, 36 teams competed in their respective age groups, including several District Cup Champions that earned their Free & Automatic entry to State Cup via their District Cup.
Cal North State Cup Champions in the U12 Boys & Girls age groups earned the right to represent Northern California next summer at the U12 Far West Regional Championships event that will be taking place in Salt Lake City, Utah along with the 2024 US Youth Soccer Far West Presidents Cup. There is no national event for U12.
Those two teams that have already booked their ticket to regionals are Lamorinda SC United 2012 Pre-GA winning the U12 Girls bracket and JASA RWC Jrs 2012B winning the U12 Boys division.
Saturday proved to be a wonderful day for soccer in mid December. Hundreds of families and players made their way to Mustang Soccer Complex to compete for the highest State Cup recognition there is in the state. All teams had three guaranteed games, with two being played on Saturday.
The following day some groups had determining final group stage matches that would help them move on to the State Cup Finals, other brackets were round-robin where standings would determine the Champion after group play. Despite sporadic rain throughout the afternoon on Sunday, all games were played on time and Champions & Finalists were recognized in front of their supportive families & teammates.
In this event, we had two teams that became Back-2-Back Cal North State Cup Champions. Manteca Area Soccer League Rangers United 13G Gold won the U11 Girls division after previously having won the U10 Girls State Cup in March. The other team that won Back-2-Back Cal North State Cups were JASA RWC Jrs 2012B, who won the U11 Boys division earlier this year as well and have booked their ticket to regionals.
Teams that earned their way to Cal North State Cup via District Cups also found success. In the U10 Boys age group, both San Jose Rush, Champions from District 2 Cup, and Pittsburg Youth Soccer Club, Champions from District 3/4 Cup made the podium. In the U12 Boys division the MVLA SC 12B Ajax Blue, District 2 Cup Champions, reached the Final of the Cal North State Cup.
MORGAN HILL, Calif. (April 13-14, 2024) - A rainy and chilly Saturday morning saw action kick-off at Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Complex for the U13-U19 Cal North State Cup. This regional qualifier event saw two teams win a third Cal North State Cup in a row, while one team went back-to-back for the first time.
In the U13 Girls division a strong SF Aftershocks team with a handful of Cal North ODP players displayed a very good brand of soccer, dominating their opponents and taking this age group by storm. Their second game against East Bay United Bay Oaks was perhaps their most challenging game of the tournament, resulting in a close 1-0 win.
In the boys side, an explosive Terra Bella FC team representing Porterville, California showcased their grit in a thrilling 4-3 Final win over Lamorinda SC.
Manteca Area Rangers continue to make noise at Cal North State Cups, this time with their U14 Girls team (10G Gold) beating Silicon Valley Eagles in a close 1-0 Final. Manteca Area Rangers also won the U11 Girls Cal North State Cup in December.
The only team from this weekend that repeated as Back-to-back Cal North State Cup Champions were the PV United 06 Boys (U18/19). The team led by coach Esteban Garcia is eager to return to regionals after a disappointing first time appearance in Boise last year, knowing this is their last year as a group as well.
Another PV United team and another one that is most likely giving one more shot at regionals is the PV United 06/07G. Coach Luis Guerrero and his team have competed at the last two regional events in Boise and have come up short in both occasions, being eliminated in quarterfinals. To qualify to regionals they beat East Bay United Bay Oaks by a score of 5-0 and will look to make this last regionals experience a memorable one.
As for three-peats, we had two teams win their third Cal North State Cup this weekend.
The U16 Boys from Ajax United were the first ones on the podium after beating Cupertino, Pittsburg and Ravenswood. This team, similar to the PV United 06 Boys, did not performed their best at regionals and now accomplished their goal of qualifying for that stage once again. Coach Mitch has done a great job with this team, winning three Cal North State Cups in a row and leading one of the top U16 Boys groups in Northern California.
The second team that has now won three Cal North State Cups in a row are the Alum Rock FĂștbol Club - Eclipse. The group led by German Plaza also counts with several Cal North ODP players that helped the team lift their third Cal North State Cup in three years, booking their tickets to Far West Regional Championships in Hawai'i.
As a reminder, Far West Regional Championships are for U12-U19 age groups, with U12 Far West Regional Championships taking place on June 14-18, 2024 in Salt Lake City, Utah along with the 2024 Far West Presidents Cup. There is no national event for U12. As for all U13-U19 Cal North State Cup Champions, the Far West Regional Championships will take place in Hawaii June 21-27, 2024. The event will feature Boys and Girls teams in the 13U-19U age groups who will compete for a regional championship and a spot at the US Youth Soccer National Championships.
