Cal North Districts and Leagues

Cal North is divided into nine geographically based districts, each with a commissioner elected to the board. The districts are geographically divided into leagues of registration.

Our goal is to provide an opportunity for youth players of all levels of skill across Northern California to participate in soccer programs. Scroll below to find out more about what your district offers. To find where you can register your child search our League Directory.

District I

Cal North District I is the smallest district in Cal North and includes cities in the northern tip of the San Francisco Bay peninsula: San Francisco, Daly City, Colma, Pacifica, San Bruno, South San Francisco, and Brisbane.

District I is a dense urban environment where often the biggest challenge is finding a place for practice or play. Nonetheless, affiliated leagues offer soccer year round – traditional fall leagues, several rapidly growing spring leagues, and a summer league.

Leagues register players to play on teams at all levels of skill – from recreational to competitive.

District I teams also participate in Cal North statewide competitions such as CCSL, CRL, tournaments, and Cal North Cups.

The District I Administration is composed of a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers working together to offer new and better opportunities for youth soccer.

The Mission Youth Soccer League plays June to August, with competitive and recreational brackets.

San Francisco Youth Soccer runs both Fall and Spring Recreational and Competitive (CCSL Prep) leagues. Fall leagues play September – November (registration in April). Spring leagues play March – May (registration in December). This league serves more than 500 teams and 9,000 San Francisco players.

The South San Francisco United Youth Soccer League has a fall league for recreational players.

District II

Cal North District II serves families in over 20 local leagues in San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey Counties.

They offer youth players of all abilities the opportunity to play the greatest game in the world — and learn some valuable life lessons along the way as well.

Some call it soccer; others futbol, but all can call District II home.

Recreational players can play within their home league, or as part of a play-through league that includes teams from several neighboring leagues. Competitive players can play on teams bracketed within a metro area — or all the way up to statewide leagues.

While the primary playing season for District II teams is the fall, District II also offers a developmental spring season — with tournament play for fun experiences in the summer.

District IV

Cal North District IV is located in the East Bay area of Northern California and includes the eastern edge of the San Francisco Bay: Alameda, Walnut Creek, Castro Valley, Southern Alameda County, West Contra Costa County, Lamorinda, Vallejo, Delta, Benicia, Oakland, Hayward, Diablo Valley, Mount Diablo & Martinez. Cal North affiliated leagues in District IV offer soccer year round – traditional fall leagues, several rapidly growing spring leagues, and a summer league.

The District Administration is composed of a dedicated group of volunteers working together to offer new and better opportunities for youth soccer.

District IV teams participate in all Cal North programs.

District IV leagues represent all levels of skill including recreation and development, competitive and premier. Many of our District IV teams participate in statewide tournaments and programs such as the State and Association Cup, the Olympic Development Program, and the State Playing League, CCSL and CRL.

The number of registered youth players in District IV has more than doubled. This amount of growth presents significant issues in an area with overdeveloped real estate.

Most league play is recreational, and teams may participate in more than one league. Competitive teams play in leagues outside of District IV.

District VI is centrally located in the heart of Northern California. It serves families in 16 leagues: 49’er, American River, Butte, Capital Valley, El Dorado, Elk Grove, Folsom Lake, Gold Country, Natomas United, Placer, River City, Rolling Hills, Sacramento, Sac North, Vacaville and Yuba-Sutter Youth Soccer Leagues.

District VI

Cal North District VI affiliated leagues offer soccer traditionally in the fall. However, District VI also offers a developmental spring season. District VI leagues offer players of all abilities the opportunity to play soccer whether it is TopSoccer, Recreational, or Competitive.

TopSoccer is an Outreach Program for Soccer and is a community based soccer program that is designed to meet the needs of children aged 4 and older with physical and/or mental disabilities. The program is geared toward player development rather than competition. Recreational players can play within their home league/club, or as part of a play-through league that includes teams from several neighboring leagues/clubs. Competitive players can play on teams bracketed within a metro area or all the way up to statewide leagues. Those with exceptional abilities can pursue the Olympic Development Program (ODP) which helps jettison them to state, regional and US Soccer’s youth national teams.

District VI teams also participate in Cal North statewide competitions: tournaments, State, Presidents, Association and Founders Cup. Additional, District VI also host local tournaments and events within the District.

Besides player development, District VI also offers opportunities for coach and referee training through regular clinics and courses.

A wonderful group of dedicated volunteers not only serving on the District board; but also serve on our league and club boards as well as being coaches.
